Shreve Celebrates Historic Freedom 250 Grand Prix

August 21, 2026

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jefferson Shreve (IN-06) released the following statement ahead of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C.:

"This weekend, INDYCAR will make history on the streets of our nation’s capital. Drivers will race past monuments that tell America’s story — and the country will see what Hoosiers have known for generations: There’s nothing quite like INDYCAR racing!

"Race day is unlike anything else: the smell of fuel and hot asphalt. The roar down the straightaway — and a crowd holding its breath. It is engineering, innovation and competition on full display.

"Auto racing is woven into Indiana’s identity. Bringing our proud tradition to Washington is a fitting way to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Mary and I wish every driver a safe, fast race. And as we say in Indy: Drivers, start your engines!”

Last month, Rep. Shreve introduced a House resolution supporting the Freedom 250 and recognizing the contributions of INDYCAR, the Indianapolis 500 and the Hoosiers who have made Indiana the racing capital of the world. Every Republican member of Indiana’s House delegation joined the resolution. Read the full resolution here.
