As Holiday Scams Ramp Up, Shreve Advances His Scam Taskforce Bill to the House Floor

December 3, 2025
Washington, D.C. — With holiday scams surging, Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R-IN) announced that his standalone Dismantle Foreign Scam Syndicates Act has passed out of the House Foreign Affairs Committee today and is headed to the House Floor.
This marks the latest push in Rep. Shreve’s broader effort to crack down on international scam networks that are stealing billions from Americans — often targeting seniors and vulnerable families. Provisions of the bill have already moved through committee once this year, underscoring the sustained, bipartisan commitment to tackling this growing threat.
Mr. Shreve has made protecting Americans from foreign scam syndicates a top priority in Congress. He launched the bipartisan STOP Scams Caucus, led a letter to Secretary of State Marc Rubio calling for stronger federal coordination, and introduced multiple measures aimed at shutting down overseas operations that prey on U.S. citizens.
The Dismantle Foreign Scam Syndicates Act establishes a first-of-its-kind interagency task force — led by the State Department — to disrupt and dismantle large-scale foreign scam operations. The task force will align federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to pursue the criminal networks behind these schemes.
“As scams grow more sophisticated, our response has to keep pace,” Shreve said. “This bill pulls together the right federal tools and agencies to go after the criminals overseas who target Americans every day.”
The legislation now moves to the full House for consideration.
