Congressman Shreve Secures Federal Funding To Improve Safety on County Road 144 in Bargersville
Bargersville, IN — Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R-IN) secured $1.6 million in federal funding to help rebuild County Road 144 in Bargersville — a stretch of road local leaders have flagged for years. After hearing directly from them about the accidents and growing risks along this corridor, Mr. Shreve pushed for this project in the FY2026 Agriculture Appropriations Bill, now signed into law.
County Road 144 has been too narrow for the increasing traffic it carries each day. The combination of high volume and aging pavement has made it a hotspot for crashes. These funds will support safety upgrades on County Road 144: widening the shoulders so disabled cars or farm equipment have room to pull off safely, and repaving the worn roadbed to cut down on crashes and delays. This investment will make the daily drive smoother, safer, and quicker. As a key connector to I-69, these upgrades will support local commerce, and open the door for continued growth across the region.
Representative Shreve said, “As a member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, I’ve learned just how critical these projects are for our communities. County Road 144 is overdue for repair. I’m proud to deliver federal resources to help rebuild this vital county road. Johnson County residents depend on safe, reliable roads. As the “Crossroads of America,” we need to live up to that slogan."
