Congressman Shreve Hosts Small Business Roundtable in Johnson County
Greenwood, IN — U.S. Congressman Jefferson Shreve (IN-06) held a roundtable discussion with local business leaders in Johnson County to discuss the extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. He was joined by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Aspire Economic Development + Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, and by a number of small business owners from around the county.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was signed into law early in President Trump’s first administration. It was the largest tax code overhaul in three decades. It delivered tax cuts for individuals and businesses.
Unless Congress acts this year, Federal tax rates will revert to their higher levels.
Congress has the opportunity to extend or make permanent the key provisions of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. Congressman Shreve heard from small businesses from across the county on the importance of extending the 2017 tax cuts.
Congressman Shreve said, "I appreciated this listen and learn opportunity with our local businesses. In my 30 years of growing a business from start-up, I experienced firsthand the challenges that small businesses face. I'm committed to keeping federal tax rates down where they are. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act provides this relief and better enables businesses to be successful. I aim to bring Hoosier business-sense to Washington. I’ll work with my colleagues in Congress to get that job done."
Christian Maslowski, President and CEO of Aspire Johnson County, said, "Federal tax policy affects businesses of all sizes, but small businesses and local communities are especially vulnerable to tax increases. As one of Indiana’s fastest-growing economies, Johnson County thrives largely because of small business success. We appreciate Congressman Shreve for hosting today’s discussion, giving our local business owners a voice in shaping policies that impact their growth and our local economy."
Rodney Davis, Head of Government Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said, "The U.S. Chamber thanks Congressman Shreve for working to ensure that the pro-growth policies enacted in the TCJA continue to benefit all Americans. All policy is local. taking the conversation around tax reform out of Washington and into Greenwood is a testament to his commitment to advocating for families and businesses throughout Indiana's 6th Congressional District.”
