Congressman Shreve Honors National Police Week, Supporting Crucial Measures For Hoosier Law Enforcement
Congressman Shreve recognized Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess on the House Floor and advanced vital legislation supporting law enforcement officers.
Washington, DC -- During National Police Week, Representative Jefferson Shreve (IN-06) reinforced his commitment to law enforcement officers across Indiana by delivering legislative wins for the police community and improving public safety. This week, he also honored the service of Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess and his team, on the House Floor.
Congressman Shreve has consistently supported our law enforcement community. He voted to pass a series of crucial bills that strengthen support for officers nationwide. He recently sponsored legislation that better equips officers with the tools they need to protect our communities.
Congressman Shreve supports the following bills:
- The Qualified Immunity Act of 2025. This bill protects the rights of law enforcement officers to perform their duties in good faith and without fear of extraneous litigation — ensuring officers are protected and not targeted with frivolous lawsuits.
- The Thin Blue Line Act. This bill toughens penalties against cop killers by making the murder or attempted murder of a police officer or other first responders an “aggravating” factor in death penalty determinations.
- The National Law Enforcement Officers, Support and Community Outreach Act. This bill establishes a formal program to support community outreach, public education, and officer safety and wellness through the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. It underscores the importance of honoring the brave officers who protect our community.
Representative Shreve said, "Police week is a time for us to honor those serving our communities. Especially those who have given their lives in the line of duty. I was joined by our Johnson County Sheriff, Duane Burgess. We're grateful for the dedicated service he and his team provide our community every day. I'm committed to providing support for our law enforcement officers who do vital work to protect our communities."
Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said, "It's always a privilege to travel to our nation's capital on National Police Week.
