Congressman Shreve Designates December 4 as “National Scam Prevention Day”

December 4, 2025
Washington, DCCongressman Jefferson Shreve (R-IN) today introduced a resolution designating December 4, 2025, as National Scam Prevention Day, underscoring the growing need for a coordinated national effort to help Americans identify, report, and prevent scams.
Indiana ranks second nationwide for phishing scams. Every year, countless citizens fall victim to increasingly sophisticated schemes. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that Americans collectively lose more than $190 billion annually to scams—far higher than what is typically reported.
Mr. Shreve has made stopping foreign scams a central focus of his work in Congress. He launched the bipartisan STOP Scams Caucus, pressed the State Department through a letter to Secretary Marco Rubio, advanced legislation targeting international scam syndicates, and created the first federal interagency task force dedicated to dismantling them.
This week, Rep. Shreve joined public and private-sector leaders at the Global Anti-Scam Summit in Washington. He participated in a panel with his caucus co-chair, wherein they outlined progress in Congress to better protect Americans.
“Americans are becoming all too familiar with scam messages,” Shreve said. “And some of the more sophisticated scams can cost people their homes, wipe out retirement savings, and leave innocent victims with nothing. By recognizing December 4 as National Scam Prevention Day, we’re putting a spotlight on the targeted threats coming from foreign scammers. We need to equip Americans with the tools to recognize, report, and avoid these costly schemes.”
