Shreve Secures Sixth District Wins as BUILD America 250 Act Passes Transportation and Infrastructure Committee

May 22, 2026
WASHINGTON — Congressman Jefferson Shreve (IN-06) announced that the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure passed the BUILD America 250 Act today. This is the bipartisan, five-year surface transportation reauthorization bill, commonly known as the Highway Bill.

The legislation includes many Shreve-backed provisions to invest in roads and bridges, speed up project delivery, strengthen rail safety, crack down on fraudulent commercial driver training programs, and improve freight movement for Indiana’s distribution-based economy.

Key provisions secured for Indiana’s Sixth District include:

Cutting Red Tape for Infrastructure Projects

Speeds up federal environmental reviews so road and bridge projects are not stuck in years of delay before construction can begin.

Cracking Down on Fraudulent CDL Training Programs
Targets fake commercial driver training schools that put unqualified or ineligible truck drivers behind the wheel and make roads less safe.

Investing in Safer Rail Crossings and Rail Lines
Reauthorizes the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements and Rail Crossing Elimination programs, supporting upgrades to dangerous rail crossings and improvements to rail infrastructure.

Improving Freight Movement
Prioritizes highway improvements in busy freight corridors, helping goods move more efficiently through Indiana and across the country.

“Hoosiers sent me to Washington to solve practical problems,” said Rep. Shreve. “These are issues and priorities that I heard directly from constituents — safer roads, faster project approvals, stronger rail infrastructure, and accountability for commercial driver training. My team and I worked hard to build these priorities into the Highway Bill —  with clear priorities for Indiana’s Sixth District, and we delivered.”

The BUILD America 250 Act now heads to the full House for consideration.
